My not so secret fascination: Salvador Dalí

Swans reflecting elephants, 1937, Dali
Swans reflecting elephants?
Yes.
Literally.
Swans reflecting elephants.
Focus on the lake.
And it's reflection.
There.
Merging of hallucination and reality.

Three sphinxes of bikini, 1947, Dali
Can you see the parallelism?
Between...
Human, tree, explosion?
Humanity, nature, destruction?

Sleep, 1937, Dali

And if one could view sleep, objectified,
One might view their head so heavy,
A head being "held,
On the crutches of reality."

    1. Nice to know there are Dali fans out there! Sara, who else do you like?
I am afraid I have too many: it may need to become a regular series on my blog :)

  4. Fascinating! If you want another good one, look at Michaelangelo's "Creation of Adam." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Creation_of_Adam
The cape, containing "nous" (mind and thoughts) of God, could be interpreted as being in the shape of a cross section of the brain. So cool.

    1. Thank you for the suggestion, Elizabeth! And I can honestly say the painting is breathtaking in person. Looking at the Wikipedia page, isn't the restoration work extraordinary?
